some used to call me candy, others call me ratata, renata
or miss rey. my parents gave me the beautiful name renate koning.
since lockdown 2020 i started to call my work royal_trailertrash.
I'm from Holland, but more like a straycat. the past years i was a lot vagabumming and couch-surfing around, until i was lucky enough to be able to jump out of the citylife during a pandemic and 'squat' a pretty little red andy warhol caravan in a very nice place. i live as an artist. poor, depressed, inspired, obsessed, happy, naive, rebellious, open and amazed. but i feel super rich. waking up every day close to nature and the elements, with endless possibility for creation is magic!
i've never really wanted to set base. i feel home everywhere and nowhere but every day a bit more in the here&now and within myself. to be able to work as an artist, i needed a place to work. Summer '20, with a lot of recycled scrap material and help from a few good people, i build my own 'tiny' daylight atelier. next to the red caravan. a few square meters on wheels at this planet where i can work freely and find my peace. check out here!
i started my artistic career with photography. during my study i got more interested in video, painting, design and screenprinting. my work is my therapy,to calm my mind and connect with my inner voice. it's my way of communication to you or with you. to express emotions & thoughts. It's also my way of activism. my political/social/environmental engagement. raisin awareness in certain topics. (which you also see in the materials i use). the desire for connection and sharing skills. making art for everybody accessible in creation and admiration, and most of it my way of trying to make the world a better place.
